I fell in love with Twitter very quickly, someone could probably decipher a lot about my personality from that I suppose! I do tweet fairly regularly and have quite strong views on what I tweet, how to RT (retweet) and wonder about the longevity and appropriateness of the digital footprints I'm leaving along the way.
I've used Twitter to live blog through a few events recently, sharing what would normally be my scratchy notes with a wider audience. I've also had the rather unsettling experience of speaking at a function where 70% of the audience were Twittering throughout my presentation with the 'back channel' scrolling on a screen beside me so that the audience could see it but I couldn't. I was extremely nervous to go back and read the tweets in case they were all saying .. "blah blah blah, wish we were at the pub - she's boring" and similar things in 140 characters or less!
I've used Twitter to follow some highlights of library conferences overseas and sometimes hear about things via Twitter before the news. I did laugh recently when some people in Queensland were tweeting that the morning TV shows weren't keeping up with the news flashing around on Twitter ... turns out that all of their TV programs are delayed an hour due to not having daylight savings - makes the whole curtains fading argument pale into insignificance.
I wonder did Kochie and Mel realise that people thought they were quaint and out of touch?
